Learn to sew stretchy stuff!

Beginner-For people who don’t know how to sew or have only “hand sewn” or don’t know how to use a pattern.

Saturday, April 30, 9 am-1 pm

Location TBD

$60

Sewing stretch fabric has a reputation as being really tricky, but I’ve never seen it that way! In this workshop you will learn to sew a spandex biketard! We will start with basic sewing technique and components, then learn to cut and layout a pattern to the correct size, then sew and finish your new costume/training wear. We will discuss options for customizing as we go, but this workshop is for the total beginner who doesn’t know where to start.

Getting Creative with Stretchy Stuff.

Intermediate-For people who can sew but maybe don’t have experience with stretch fabric or want to learn ways to make unitards look way cooler.

Saturday, April 30, 2pm-6 pm

Location TBD

$60

In this workshop we will make a bike or unitard and incorporate several different embelishment techniques. I’ll teach you how to add mesh inserts, appliqu es, fancy sleeve caps, flared legs, piping and more. We will all work from the same pattern, but all end up with different finished products! We will also hit upon using a serger to make your project look more finished.

Supply list for both workshops!

  • Please bring a sewing machine if you have one. If you don’t, you can get a cheap beginner machine from Target or Joann for about $100. You don’t need to bring a machine, but you will learn more and once you know how to sew, you will use it all the time!

  • Additionally, we will be using McCalls pattern M7269. I will have these patterns available for purchase for $15, or you can order it and bring your own.

  • 2-2.5 yards of 4 way stretch lycra fabric. Joann has a large selection of this. You can get whatever color you want. It can be shiny or not shiny...up to you. Get 2.5 yards if you want to make a unitard and 2 if you want to make a biketard.

  • Matching thread.

  • Scissors.

  • Pins.

  • For the intermediate workshop, please bring any fabric scraps that you might have lying around.
